Bolly Blog 36 - wrap party

We did it! The final day is here and we are officially wrapped! We endend our shoot right where we started it - at our Digi Quest production office. It was quite an emotional day for all...especially Uma...It's an amazing thing to be a director who's finshed shooting his first feature. I think he really felt it...

That night we went right upstairs on the roof of Digi Quest to have our wrap party...

The evening started with cutting the cake!

Shiva wants to eat it all!

People fed each other the cake like at a wedding...

And of course a messy cake fight began....

Then suddenly the Bollywood Music started!!!

People went nuts and I mean NUTS when the music came on...

You know I was a dancing fool...!

As was Derth...gettin' his groove on...

At one point our little Digi Quest friend gets thrown into the action...

The music played on for a few hours...(only to be stopped when the cops showed up...something I didn't hear about until later...The beautiful Aravind looking out for all of us one more time!)

Good friends who will be missed!

What will I do back in the U.S. without these amazing folks!!!

Bolly Blog 35 - Shooting the Song

Well, we've come to one of the hardest parts of the shoot - filming the final song for the movie...This is similar to shooting a music video and takes us two days of filming...

Everyone is very excited about the music that has been composed and believes that this song will be a hit, which helps sell the movie tremendously in India...

Uma has worked very hard story boarding the entire movie and here a few of his story boards for the song...

Derth then interprets Uma's vision...

Uma's story board...

Derth's shot...

Raj is famous for her dancing ability...

And does a killer job!

Another very important piece of this puzzle is the choreographer, Nixon. He actually directs these dance sequences and he's a thrill to watch in action!

Uma, Raj and Nixon watch playback on a dance sequence.

We also had a very special performer in this song...

Who's that swarthy man? None other than our First A.D. Sashin...

a real pro-with Raj....

After two long days we all got a little silly and slap happy...

I was dressed up by the girls, who told me I looked like a real North Indian princess!

And look at the hilarious result!

On the last day, Bhupesh presented me with this fantastic poster...Yes Folks...my own bollywood movie coming to a theater near you...

Bolly Blog 34 - Shop 'til I drop...India style

Sari Dress Shop in Old City...

Well, finally I have had a chance to get my India shop on! (And boy did I do some damage...my credit card is cryin' "uncle", believe me!) With Christmas just a couple of weeks away, I thought I'd do the xmas shopping here. Huma, our lovely costume designer, was able to lead me in the right direction...

We started at her favorite fabric and sari store, a place she has been coming to for years, even as a young girl with her mother. Huma picks out a gorgeous fabric for Raj to wear in the final song...

And Huma helps me pick out some sari's as gifts...She also got me incredible prices for them. All because of her years-long relationship with the owners. These sari's would have cost me twice as much money if I'd gone in by myself!

We then go on to Huma's personal tailor, who is creating Raj's costume and he also agrees to stitch a beautiful coat and sari for me!

Huma and I then go on to a very cool jewelery designer's shop...
Where unbeknownst to my husband, he buys me this beautiful pearl necklace for Christmas...(Thanks Honey!) ...Hyderbad is known for it's pearls...I also pick up a really cool silver elephant necklace for mom...and Huma and I can't resist some sparkly earrings which I give her as a BIG thank-you for a great time!

My next shopping trip is to OLD CITY for some of the famous Hyderbad glass bangles...

Kittu and his lovely wife Sandhy take me there on a Sunday afternoon. It's another place where you really need a local to take you through it...First to deal with the traffic and people which was crazy!

There is a long street filled with bangle and sari shops...

I would follow Kittu and his wife in and out of them as he'd see what prices the seller would be asking. Many times we would walk out because the owners were trying to charge too much...

Finally on a little side street we found a very fair dealer...Sandhy and I had a blast matching bangles to the sari's I had bought with Huma...

These bangles are made completely of glass and are beautiful, but easily breakable...I have HUGE wrists, so I had to really search to find ones to fit...

Also I learned the trick of using hand cream to slide them on and off, because I have broken more than a couple of them...Patience is key to the glass bangle...You can't force it on or it breaks every time...(An excellent metaphor for this entire India experience maybe??...hmm....Yes, patience is the key, when it comes to India...)

Sandhy and I in front of Charminar - Oh and I am wearing a Kurta stitched by our costumer Ashoke...

Thanks Ashoke!

I also had a suit stitched...Here I am being fitted by my own personal tailor!

It' turned out fabulous! I've never had a suit made and fit-to-order and for about $75 American dollars, including fabric! Fantastic!

Bolly Blog 33 - Film Nagar Slum Area

We spent an afternoon shooting in another amazing place which is called "Film Nagar Slum Area" (There was literally a printed sign that said that - which was really surprising to Derth and I, because it used the word "slum")

We were shooting a limo driving through the hills, so of course we got a lot of attention...

Derth tries to set up a shot in the crowded market area...

Almost impossible not to get people looking into the camera...but we tried!

Sashi at the ready to cue the limo...

Excited kids watch the filming...

Derth gets some help from little friends!

I pulled out my camera and immediately kids surrounded me saying "Auntie, Auntie - take my picture!"....

With these amazing faces I was happy to do it!

This is a vibrant, happy place even thought it's called a "slum". I'll let these picuters speak for themselves...
